Literally Literal

I am a very literal person. Words. I love them.

When I am listening to a song, I tend to focus more on the words then the music. (Most of the time). If I am with someone in my car, I’ll say, “Wow! Did you hear those lyrics?” To which I usually get a reply of, “No.” Or, “I was listening to the music, weren’t you?” Sometimes being a literal person can be a curse though. I tend to take people by their word. If you say something, I assume you mean exactly what you said. Literally. Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t really mean things they say. Therefore, literal people like me, tend to get let down. A lot.

Back to songs.

I love music. All genres. But yesterday, I found myself singing a Bob Dylan song, and I couldn’t get it out of my head. I feel that Bob Dylan is an artist that has a voice you need to acquire a taste for, but his words are amazing. Have you actually listened to the words, and thought about what they mean? The song of his that was caught in my head was “The Times They Are A-Changin.”

I was wondering why the heck this song, out of all songs that I like, was stuck in my head. So, as I was singing it while cleaning my kitchen, I realized why. It’s really the anthem of my life right now. The times are changing, and I either need to step up and take charge, or give up and sink. I need to see that I am solely responsible for what path my life takes now, I can see it……

Verse 1:

Come gather ’round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you
Is worth savin’
Then you better start swimmin’
Or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’.

Perfect song for my current times. Thank you, Mr. Dylan, for the lyrics.
